about me .. and the music (and don´t expect proper english .. ha!)

born in 1974, i started living the life of a happy kid. As my family never ever dealt with musicmaking, or other arts, it was the sports i spent my time with. (tennis, handball, squash, football). But still i realized very early, when i was about 8, that there´s something called "rhythm" outthere. I often sat on the stairs and played drums with my hands, on the steps. I started making drumsounds with my mouth developing my human beatbox (coming from my affection for rap music in the late 80´s, early 90´s). In school i hated the subject music, and was very bad in it as i refused to learn about notes and notation, and all these rules we were tought there. When i was 16 i was asked if i want to be the singer in a new band, and the music almost instantly substituted my sport activities, from one day to the other. We, the "colored daydreams", started playing local gigs, playing some kind of english indie-guitar music, with cover-versions of the smiths, housemartins, and our own songs. It was a fantastic experience, and i just knew that its the music that keeps me going. After a year or so we split. Fortunately some dudes in school asked me if i want to be their singer, so the story continued.

I was 19 (1994 or so) when i met Kurt (www.kurtvonsuso.de) for the first time in stuttgart-city. he told me that he and his 2 brothers were having a german rap band. when i told him that i can do the human beatbox he said "oki, lets try something together". Thats what we did, and i became a new member of the band "hoch 3", which later on was and is still called "supersonnig" (www.supersonnig.de). I was just one year away from finishing school when we got our contract with virgin records. And what did i do? i quit school - cause i thought little putti´s gonna be a popstar soon. we then released just 2 singles, did 2 video´s .. but the whole thingie flopped big time. Virgin wanted us to be ubercommercial, and we refused. After that we never got a deal again. I spent 5 years with these 3 siblings, and everything would be very diffrent if i hadn´t met them. It was in about 1996 when they said "here putte, take the sampler and try to do some music with it." I said "no way! thats too synthetic to me .. i want guitars!" .. but they just left that sampler in my room, so i tried it out after they went. And wowowow .. this night was a breakpoint. I suddenly realized that one can do a whole band on his own, by using a sampler. And thats what i did then. I started producing the songs for the band, and beside that i started experimenting with my own ideas, just for myself. From that night on all i did was making music .. the atari st computer followed and became a good friend .. i was just completely sucked into this thingie called music .. ;)

In 1998 i then released my first solo-album on my own: the seepferdchen album. i sold 600 copies, which helped me a lot to gain some respect in stuttgart. Due to this album i also slowly got into making music for commercials and cd-roms, and had my first songs on label-compilations. 1998 was also the year i left supersonnig, cause i wanted to fully concentrate on my solostuff. A year later i did some live-acts, armed with the sampler and the atari. but well, having one hand on a mouse, on stage .. not that sexy to me. and thats now where good old edgar steps in, as one night, at a gig, someone said "hey putte, let edgar play the drums to your stuff" .. and so we did, and knew that we would fit together. the topmodernspacekrautrockin´putte&edgar band was founded .. hooray! we started playing gigs in almost every location in stuttgart, we´re happy to see that people still love to see us. thanks so much for that! in 2001 we got a mangement, and tried to make our way into the biz. problem was that what we do on stage is improvising with samples, edgar on drums and me on the samplers and the microphone .. there are no typical songstructures, its just a wild thingie remixing itself every time again. we struggled, and tried to put ourselves into a 3,5 minutes pop-scheme, but it didnt work. in the end we quit with the management, were in debts, and even edgar and me had more and more trouble being partners. we then released our live cd, and the the day we had the release-gig we decided to split after that concert. then something very very strange happened - the day after we split we phoned, and we were both rather aggressive towards each other, no harmony at all, saying "puh, good that its over now". But at one point of the phonecall we both turned into "huh? Do we really wanna stop this tiptop thingie we have, the music we can do?" .. the reply was "no, we dont stop". and since this day, it was in 2002 i think, we´re better than we´ve ever been. its all so relaxed now .. thank you ede .. ;)

Edgar and me are, since then, no more ambitious when it comes to getting a deal, making singles and these things. we just play, and hope to find a booker to bring us to some bigger festivals. at one point there may be a kind of "studio-album" of us .. who knows .. we´re not in a hurry ;p

beside all my private music i of course had to see how to make the bucks for the living, and thats were the scoring for films, which i started in 2000, comes in. i had the big luck to find a man called floff over here who´s into the film-scene as a director, producer and publisher. i met him the first time when i was drunk, at a party, stumbled over to him and said " *burp* .. hey, i can do filmscores! I never did it, but i think i can .. *burp*". one year later he called me telling me that i should deliver him some of my music cause there´s a director searching for the composer for his new film. it did the trick, and i got the job for "mein bruder der vampir" ("getting my brother laid"), working 5 months on the score, with the top director sven taddicken. this film then won 20 prices all over the world, on festivals, did it into cinema in 4 countries. i am still so thankful that, for all the trust they gave me to do that. and it helped me as a film-composer a lot, needless to mention. from this time on i did about 2-3 films a year, 2 of them went cinema, the others on the telly. this pays my life, and i have enough time to make my own stuff as i am not the bizness type of person always caring for the next job, the next commercial .. its wonderful to have the time, and even though i am not rich it makes a living. thats what counts to me. oh, and i lend my voice for commercials. (for beer .. hrhrhr .. the simpsons, mad magazine, mickey mouse etc.) from time to time. well, so this brings it all close to now.

that´s it for now .. enough to read anyway .. thanks for the attention, and for coming.

take care everybody, there´s a lot of love around.
